On July 18 at 7:00PM at the Moore Community Center on State Street, the
Ellsworth Garden Club, in support of the Ellsworth green planning process, will be hosting a presentation and public forum—Land for Our Future: A Conservation Plan for the City of Ellsworth. This is open to everyone and there is no fee to attend.

Aaron Dority, Executive Director of Frenchman Bay Conservancy and chair of the Green Plan Land Conservation subcommittee, encourages all members of the public to voice their perspectives and to provide input at the forum for a document which will help to determine future land use in Ellsworth and in Hancock County.

The presentation will provide an overview of current conserved lands in Ellsworth and some of the Green Plan subcommittee’s work towards determining the principles, objectives and priorities which will figure in its completed conservation plan. The overall green planning process was launched in January of 2017 by the Ellsworth Garden Club. Its objective is to create a phased plan that will make Ellsworth a model green community in several key focus areas including green spaces; water, energy and waste management;walkability and public transit; sustainable development and maintenance.

With Frenchman Bay Conservancy, Dority manages a nationally accredited land conservation organization which has protected over 7000 acres of land and waters from the Union River and Frenchman Bay watersheds east to the Hancock county line, including the Jordan Homestead and Indian Point properties in Ellsworth. Prior to his work at Frenchman Bay Conservancy, he was the federal policy director for the Penobscot East Resource Center in Stonington. Dority holds a Bachelor of Science degree in ecology from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Public Administration, with a nonprofit management focus, from the University of Oregon.
