Wild Forests and Clean Waters Initiative

PRESERVING THE LAND, SHAPING OUR FUTURE

FBC launched Wilds Forests and Clean Waters Initiative:  Preserving the Land, Shaping our Future in 2008 in response to the accelerated need for FBC's work in this ecologically significant region in Maine.  Our Initiative seeks to raise money to increase our land acquisition fund, expand stewardship resources and build our endowment, so that we are in a strong position to continue protecting the land, which impacts nature, people and our region's economy.

FBC's Wild Forests and Clean Waters Initiative will enable us to purchase key properties in a timely manner, care of land holdings in perpetuity and make certain that we can always provide the Downeast community with excellent land trust services and programs.  People and wildlife at the local level are the first to gain from our daily work, which includes:

Conserving habitats that are critical to the survival of wildlife requiring large forested areas with clean water.

Providing public access to our preserves for low-impact recreation.

Helping to protect local jobs by preserving working forests, clean waters and the scenic vistas that bring tourists to our region.

We believe our regional conservation work will have far reaching effects and long-term benefits for scientific research and our local economy.  The distinctive assets we enjoy in our preserved lands--dark skies, pure waters, dense forests and abundant wildlife--are what set our region apart.  We believe that ecological education and research will potentially emerge as a driving force for this area's economy.  The success of FBC's Wild Forests and Clean Waters Initiative will move this vision forward.
