**RESCHEDULED TO 4/28** Vernal Pool Discovery Field Trip at Bad Beaver Farm in Ellsworth

Join FBC on a field trip to Bad Beaver Farm in Ellsworth for a Vernal Pool Discovery Day. Participants will be learning and looking for the indicator species associated with true vernal pools — wood frog eggs, salamander eggs, caddis fly larvae, and the ever elusive fairy shrimp. Naturalist newcomers are welcome!

Bad Beaver Farm is a 400-acre parcel of pure Downeast wilderness. The owners, Carol Leonard and her husband, Tom Lajoie, have put in miles of woods roads for nature viewing. FBC visitors will be treated to a naturalist’s “Bad Beaver Safari” to see how many plant and animal species can be observed. (The name “Bad Beaver” came soon after Carol and Tom realized they were hosting about 200 beavers on the land that they argue about on a daily basis.) The farm also has a large greenhouse that is actively being harvested right now.

Participants will receive directions to the farm upon registering for the event.

Please note: Participants will be walking about 2 miles on good, even, gravel woods roads. It’s mud season in Maine, so please dress accordingly.

To keep our staff, volunteers, and other program participants safe, please stay home if you have any symptoms consistent with cold. Thank you!

This hike is limited to 12 registrants, so please sign up early!
