Autumn Trail Race Results and Photos
Although the course was wet, the weather on Sunday was all sunshine and over 70 runners came out to Sumner Memorial High School in Sullivan to test their trail running skills!
For the past six years, Jennifer Britz of Bar Harbor has claimed the Double Trouble Challenge prize for the top female trail runner in Eastern Hancock County. On Sunday, at Frenchman Bay Conservancy’s Autumn Trail Race, she proudly defended her title for the best combined time in Frenchman Bay Conservancy’s Autumn Trail Race and Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust’s Wildlands Race in Orland a week earlier. The male finisher with the best time in both races, at first announced incorrectly, is Matt Broughton of Blue Hill. Matt is a first time Double Trouble Challenge winner.

Race Results
In four competitions on Sunday’s Autumn Trail Race, over 70 runners sprinted through the woods and splashed in puddles at Frenchman Bay Conservancy’s Baker Hill and Long Ledges Preserves,
In the 8-mile course, the top male finisher, Bryant Perkins of Bar Harbor, posted a 1:14:45 time. The top female finisher in the 8-mile, Elli Hartig of Bar Harbor, ran a 1:24:50 time. The overall winners of the 4-mile course, Patrick Powers of Searsmont and Jennifer Britz of Bar Harbor, posted 35:53 and 36:20 winning times, respectively. The Autumn Trail Race is made possible by the hard work of many volunteers who steward the trails, mark the course, and prepare a chili lunch and prizes for runners. In total, Frenchman Bay Conservancy maintains 28 miles of public access trails across in Eastern Hancock County, not only for running, but also for hiking, fishing, dog-walking, hunting, birdwatching, snowshoeing, and more.

The Autumn Trail Race is a part of the Downeast Conservation Trail Race Series, a series of six races hosted by organizations working to preserve Downeast Maine’s natural heritage. The final race of the series, Friends of Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge’s Ghost Run, is on November 11 in Baring. More information is at www.downeastconservationraces.org.
