Indian Point Preserve is located on the Union River in Ellsworth, across from the marina.

The trail from the parking lot to the point and back is .75 mile. There is a scenic view of downtown Ellsworth from the point. The views up and down the Union River make this an ideal spot for a hiker’s picnic or a break from work. Watch for occasional river otters swimming past! Allow 30 minutes for hiking.

The Maine Conservation Corps built the bog bridges and volunteers from College of the Atlantic and the Ellsworth Rotary donated materials and time to put some of the finishing touches on the Indian Point property.

Trail Description

The trail winds through the woods, over bog bridges down to a crest overlooking Card Brook and the Union River. The path continues to the scenic point along the Union River. Once there, you can view downtown Ellsworth, or look across the river, where eagles and ospreys can be seen. The spectacular view of Ellsworth is worth the short hike out to the end of Indian Point. A few picnic tables are available at the end of the trail.

Directions

From Route 1, Main St, Ellsworth, turn onto Water Street (later become Route 230S). Travel 1 mile. Go past the marina. A little further on you’ll see Tinker Farm Way on the right and an FBC preserve sign. Turn there and stay right for a short distance until you see the FBC Preserve, parking lot and kiosk.
