Visit Tidal Falls this summer to read Minquansis Sapiel’s latest storybook Gluskabe and the Gift of Maple Trees, a creation story from the Wabanaki Tribes of the Northeast. 

The story will be on display at the preserve starting June 1st, 2026, through August 31st, 2026.

A cultural hero Gluskabe is a story from the Wabanaki Tribes of the NorthEast of how the Maple tree came to gift everyone with Maple Syrup teaching lessons of Responsibility and Balance.

About the Author

 

Minquansis Sapiel

Minquansis Sapiel grew up in Passamaquoddy territory what is now called DownEast Maine. She is passamaquoddy, Penobscot, Muscogee Creek and Tarascan Native. She is self employed as a Storyteller, Speaker, Wabanaki Educator and provides guided boat tours. The hope is to connect people to the Ocean to experience more of an understanding and connection to it. In the meantime, she has collaborated with many organizations throughout Maine speaking, sharing stories, on various topics of Wabanaki history culture and their relationship with the Ocean and Waterways. She loves to travel and explore while taking pictures of nature.

Minquansis has published children’s storybooks like Gluskabe and the Gift of Maple Trees and Little People of the Dawn.
