Trail Explorer Passport: 2026 Summer Hiking Challenge

We’re challenging YOU to hike FBC’s trails this summer!

Beginning Monday, June 1st, 2026, there will be a Trail Explorer Passport sign placed along the trail at six featured FBC preserves. Each sign features a different Maine animal. Your challenge is to hike the trails, find the animal signs, and record the animals on your Passport.

Participants can keep track using a printed Passport form or simply submit their answers online using the digital form below by Sunday, September 6th.

Prize Raffle

Visit 4 of the 6 featured preserves to complete the challenge and earn 1 raffle entry. You may choose the hikes that work best for you. Participants who find all 6 signs will earn 2 total raffle entries!

This year’s prize is a $50 gift card to Cadillac Mountain Sports & FBC Merch items!

How to Participate:

  • Starting June 1st, Download and print your Passport form, or use your phone to track your answers digitally.
  • Visit any of the six featured preserves and look for the Trail Explorer Passport sign placed somewhere along the trail.
  • Record the animal shown on the sign for each preserve you visit.
  • Find signs at 4 preserves to earn 1 raffle entry.
  • Find all 6 signs to earn 2 total raffle entries.
  • Submit your completed Passport online or by mail to P.O. Box 150 in Hancock, ME. 04640 by September 6th, 2026.

Featured Preserves:

 

To make the challenge fun for all types of hikers and explorers, this year’s featured preserves include a mix of:

Quick Finds — signs located closer to trailheads or along easier-to-follow routes
Explorer Hikes — signs that may require a bit more hiking or exploration
Adventure Challenges — signs placed along preserves with longer trails or more complex trail networks

Participants are encouraged to hike at their own pace and choose preserves that match their interests and comfort level!

Submit Answers for the 2026 Trail Explorer Passport below.

Complete one submission for each adult participant who completed the challenge. For each preserve you hiked, submit your answer for what animal sign you found on the trail. Leave any preserves you did not hike blank.
