Pumpkin Hike Grand Opening & Lighting

Walk along the
jack-o’-lantern lit trail in Ellsworth!

The Pumpkin Hike is returning to the Ellsworth Riverwalk Trail! Come along on Wednesday, October 28th, to hike the jack o’ lantern lit trail and enjoy a festive celebration.

The Riverwalk trail will be lined with glowing pumpkins all carved by community members and guests of the trail. The pumpkins will remain on display for all to see starting on the evening of the grand opening, through Halloween weekend! This year we have teamed up with Ellsworth Public Library and Heart of Ellsworth.

Stop by anytime between 5:00 to 7:00pm to enjoy the grand opening celebration! Guests are encouraged to wear their best seasonal outfits & costumes, and vote on their favorite pumpkins.  Visitors should park at the City Hall parking lot and walk to the trail. Accessible parking will be available at the Ellsworth Public Library.

This event is free and open to the public, all are welcome to join, no registration required. If you have any questions about this event, please contact FBC’s Community Engagement & Partnerships Manager, Jane Parlee, at jane@frenchmanbay.org.

Carve a Pumpkin

Anyone is welcome to carve a pumpkin to help us line the trail for the Pumpkin Hike! Guests can either carve a pumpkin for free at one of the carving events held by Frenchman Bay Conservancy or the Ellsworth Public Library, or enter a pumpkin that was carved at home! Guests of the Pumpkin Hike will be encouraged to vote on their favorite pumpkins. Winners will be announced during the first week of November and be awarded prizes generously donated by local Ellsworth businesses. Learn more about Frenchman Bay Conservancy’s Pumpkin Carving Event at Tidal Falls!

All self-entered pumpkins should register using this form. Pumpkins entered into the pumpkin hike are asked to be kept on display from October 28th through the evening of Sunday, November 1st. Self-entered pumpkins should be dropped off at the Riverwalk Trail Kiosk on Tuesday, October 27th, with a name and phone number written on the pumpkin in permanent marker.

If you have a pumpkin patch of your own and would like to donate pumpkins for others to carve, please contact FBC’s Community Engagement & Partnerships Manager, Jane Parlee, at jane@frenchmanbay.org. Anyone who donates pumpkins will be named as a pumpkin sponsor!

Walk the Pumpkin Hike

Visit the Pumpkin Hike while it’s on display! The pumpkins will remain along the Ellsworth Riverwalk trail beginning on Wednesday, October 28th, throughout all of Halloween weekend. The pumpkins and all of the trail lights are set to turn on nightly, illuminating the trail for all to see.

About the Riverwalk Trail

The Riverwalk Trail follows along the edge of the Union River right in Downtown Ellsworth. The trail begins behind the Ellsworth Public Library and is a short walk on relatively flat and level surface, with smooth slopes and wide trails. The trail ends at an overlook where visitors can stop, relax, and take in a view of the river. Parking is available along State Street or at City Hall. A detailed description of this hike can be found on the Riverwalk’s webpage.
